Wandering Son

On the days
when your desired destination conflicts
with your current station,
where the self-inflicted yoke of elusive perfection
lays just beyond your fingertips,
dangerously dangling out of your reach,
when the person you are contrasts starkly with
the person you are becoming,
and ambiguity thrives in the spaces of becoming,
when feeling lost,
feeling trapped,
trapped in the confines of your mind,
caged deep
in the depths of your heart,
imprisoned
in the essence of your soul
and while your body roams city streets freely,
your mind lingers in a self-created prison
where thoughts of self-doubt
patrol the corridors like relentless guards,
condemning you with memories of your former self,
laying every fault,
every mistake,
every failure bare before you.
In these times,
I pray you show kindness to yourself.
Remember to step back—
breathe,
recognize that who you are now
is not who you were,
and who you were
is not who you will be.
Just as the earth spins on its axis,
bringing the change of seasons,
you too evolve,
entering new phases of growth.

And as everything else falls away,
within yourself,
you will find something new.
